HVO, a promising alternative to traditional fuels.

REDUCE CARBON EMISSIONS BY UP TO 90% WITH HYDROTREATED VEGETABLE OIL.
HVO:

  • Reduces net CO2 emissions by 90%, as well as far less NOx, particulates and SO2
  • Burns cleaner and runs quieter, with less vibration, reducing operator fatigue
  • Does not thicken at low temperatures
  • Can be stored far longer than conventional diesel
  • Can be freely mixed with conventional diesel

WHAT IS HVO?

HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a renewable fuel, made from waste cooking oils, including rapeseed/canola, soya and sunflower oil, as well as used animal fats. HVO has similar characteristics to conventional diesel and excellent storage stability. HVO can be used as a substitute for fossil diesel without requiring any modifications to Manitou engines, provided it complies with the EN 15940 standard.

Different from biodiesel in its chemical composition and production process, this distinction is crucial to ensuring the compatibility and performance of Manitou equipment.

HOW IS HVO PRODUCED?
The production process, known as hydrotreatment, is a method that guarantees the high quality of HVO fuel. Saturating the used cooking oil with hydrogen at temperatures above 300°C alters its chemical structure to produce a consistent, high-quality fuel that complies with the EN 15940 standard and is perfectly suited to our Manitou machines.

Reduces carbon emissions by up to 90%

HVO is a simple way to reduce your carbon footprint significantly. With some variation depending on the raw material used, HVO will reduce your carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional diesel.

IS MY MACHINE HVO COMPATIBLE?
Manitou compatible: You can use HVO in any EN 15940-compatible machine, including newer Manitou agricultural, construction and material handling ranges (check for confirmation of HVO-compatibility in the instruction manual). For older models, a fuel system kit (gasket and hose) can be used to adapt the machine to HVO. Mix safely with diesel: HVO and diesel are perfectly “miscible”, meaning that they will form a homogeneous mixture no matter what proportions you mix them in (although you are still advised to check joints for dilatation or leaks).

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
Unlike biodiesel, HVO doesn’t compete with food crops for farmland HVO reduces dependence on imports. While in some cases consumption and the price per litre may be higher, tax incentives are available in many countries.
