Maniscopic

For several decades, the Manitou brand has established itself in the telescopic forklift market in the construction, agricultural and industrial markets. In 1982, the first Manitou telescopic forklift appeared on the market. Dedicated to the building trades, this new concept in materials handling equipment provided a front-mounted offset and a high working height, as well as a side-mounted motor for greater compactness. Named Maniscopic, it marked the development of the Manitou brand's product range.

Maniscopic, Maniscopique... what's it all about?

Manitou all-terrain masted forklifts (Mani-tout), Maniscopic or telescopic forklifts, Maniaccess (aerial work platforms), Manilec (warehouse trucks), Manitransit (on-board forklifts), Manihoe (backhoe loaders)... the ranges initially aimed at construction professionals have gone on to conquer those in the agricultural sector.

Customers have thus appreciated the many advantages of this new fixed telescopic range, and have appropriated the product name as a generic term.

On construction sites or on farms, operators and users used to call any telescopic forklift a "Maniscopic", appearing in fact on the machines' booms. The term even underwent a deformation into "Maniscopic" or "Manuscopic".

In 2017, the Manitou group took the decision to strengthen Manitou brand awareness by stopping the branding of its products with the names Maniscopic, Maniaccess, Manitransit...

Any new product - MT or MLT telescopic forklift, M, MC, MSI forklift, ATJ, TJ, VJR aerial work platform..., etc. - all new products - MT or MLT telescopic forklift trucks, M, MC, MSI forklift trucks, ATJ, TJ, VJR aerial work platforms, etc. - launched since that date bear the Manitou brand sticker, and are divided into ranges according to the type of machine / its possible applications.

Still today, a Maniscopic or a Manuscopic or even a manuscopic forklift is sometimes used to refer generically to a telescopic forklift, whether or not it is Manitou-branded.
